Website Design Pricing — South Africa
Honest, Transparent Website Pricing for South African Small Businesses
No hidden fees, no vague “contact us for a quote” pages. Here’s exactly what a website costs in South Africa — and what you get for your money.
The quick answer
How Much Does a Website Cost in South Africa?
The honest answer is: it depends on what your business needs. A simple 3-page brochure site costs very differently to a 60-product WooCommerce store. The table on the right gives you a clear at-a-glance view of our pricing ranges across every service — scroll down for the full breakdown of what’s included in each package.
What we can promise is that every price on this page is a once-off setup fee with no hidden extras added later. Hosting, email, and domain registration are the only ongoing costs — and those are clearly listed in the hosting section below.
If your business has specific requirements that don’t fit neatly into one of our standard packages, we’ll build you a custom quote. Get in touch and we’ll respond within 24 hours.

What Affects the Cost of a Website in South Africa?
If you’ve ever wondered why one web designer quotes R1,500 and another quotes R50,000 for what sounds like the same thing — here’s exactly what drives the price up or down.
Number of pages
A 3-page brochure site takes far less time to build than a 15-page service site. Each additional page adds design, content, and development time to the project.
Custom vs template design
A site built from scratch to your exact specifications costs more than one based on a customised theme. Our Premium packages include fully custom designs; Starter and Growth use professional themes styled to your brand.
eCommerce functionality
Online stores require significantly more setup than brochure sites — product loading, payment gateway integration, shipping configuration, and checkout testing all add to the build time and cost.
Who writes the content
If you supply your own text and images, the cost stays lower. If you need us to write your page content, that’s included in our Premium packages or quoted separately for other tiers.
Third-party integrations
Booking systems, CRM integrations, live chat platforms, and other third-party tools each take additional time to set up and test. These are quoted on request.
Agency overhead vs freelancer
Large digital agencies charge R20,000–R100,000+ for a website because they have large teams, account managers, and office overheads. At 1st Web Design you deal directly with us — no markups, no middlemen.
How we compare

Frequently Asked Questions About Website Costs
How much does a website cost in Bloemfontein?
A professional small business website in Bloemfontein starts at R1,500 for a basic 4-page site and goes up to R5,000+ for a fully custom design. eCommerce stores start at R2,000. These are once-off setup fees — hosting and a domain are billed separately from R110/month.
Are there any hidden fees I should know about?
No. The price on your quote is the price you pay. The only ongoing costs are hosting (from R110/month), domain registration (included on Basic and Business hosting plans), and optional monthly maintenance. We confirm everything in writing before any work begins.
Do I pay monthly or once-off for a website?
The website design and build is a once-off setup fee. After that, the only recurring costs are your monthly hosting (from R110/month) and optionally a maintenance plan (from R350/month). There are no monthly “website fees” — your site is yours once built.
Why are some web designers so much cheaper or more expensive?
Very cheap websites (under R500) are usually built on platforms like Wix using drag-and-drop templates with no SEO, no custom design, and no support. Very expensive agencies charge for large teams and account managers you never need. We sit in between — professional quality, fair price, and direct access to the person doing the work.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — we typically work with a 50% deposit upfront and the remaining 50% on completion before the site goes live. For larger projects we can discuss a payment schedule. Get in touch and we’ll find an arrangement that works for your business.
What’s not included in the setup price?
The setup fee covers the design and build of your website. Not included (but available separately): monthly hosting, domain registration, business email hosting, ongoing maintenance, SEO services, Google Ads management, and professional photography or copywriting beyond what’s included in the Premium package.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most small business websites are ready within 7–14 business days from when we receive your content, logo, and brief. eCommerce stores take 10–21 business days depending on the number of products. Redesigns and larger custom projects are quoted with a specific timeline.
Do you work with businesses outside Bloemfontein?
Yes — we build websites for businesses across South Africa. Clients in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, and smaller towns across every province. Everything is handled remotely with no disruption to your business, and you’ll always deal directly with our team.
